I started removing the labels off my shampoo and my girlfriend thinks I've gone mad
Recently I have started considering the limits not only of my body but also my mind. I have noticed my mind works against my best wishes in order to not exhaust itself out. I can imagine this is a self preservation instinct developed through thousands of years of evolution; a concept too difficult for my own brain to comprehend.
There’s a certain bandwidth my mind has for the important pending, current and past information. I can only hold so much in a short amount of time. My mind roams back and forth along ideas like a marble in a half pipe. Only once I resolve will the marble drop. Resolve doesn’t necessarily mean its a finished or a positive outcome, it just means something else is occupying the space and that marble might come back at any moment.
It feels like only the trivial repetitive things in my life are the ones that easily fade away. What was once greeted with magic and awe now is only seen as a blur amongst the other million times I have experienced it. I guess your mind can’t withstand staying in a constant state of bliss forever. How simple life would be if that were so.
At the same time I realized I’m memorizing more and more corporate marketing and political agenda. I seem to be remembering more brands and influencers than the times I hugged my mom.
In a desperate attempt to fight back I started removing the labels off of every container and product I own. Theres countless things occupying my brain all the time, so much yelling at me every day and so many important things I am forgetting. I cant afford wasting time subconsciously memorizing the logo on a shampoo bottle in the shower.
I hope to forget whatever bullshit logo lives in a bottle that some rich prick created in a meeting room or worse, forced some miserable underpaid worker to design. I hope to remember the nuanced nod a stranger gave to their loved one in the subway that only they understand because they’ve known each other forever.
